    Amend the General By-Laws to create a Brookline Youth Council

  • Brief Summary:

    To see if the Town will amend its General Bylaws to create a Brookline Youth Council, as follows:

    ARTICLE [XX] Brookline Youth Council Section [XX.1]. Creation and term of office. There is hereby created a Brookline Youth Council, which shall consist of ten members between the ages of 14 and 24.. The members shall be Brookline residents who are actively enrolled in a public or private high school or college or university . The members shall be appointed by the Select Board for staggered three-year terms, provided that a member’s term shall terminate upon reaching the age of 25. Sec. [XX.2]. Election of officers. The Brookline Youth Council shall elect a chairman to conduct meetings and a vice-chairman to serve in the chairman’s absence. Elections of officers shall be held at the first regular meeting after annual appointments are made by the Select Board. Sec. [XX.3]. Meetings; records. The Brookline Youth Council shall hold at least nine meetings a year, and minutes of meeting shall be maintained in accordance with these Bylaws. All meetings shall be open to the public.. Sec. [XX.4]. Absences from meetings. Absence from three consecutive regular meetings of the Brookline Youth Council shall cause a member to be removed from their seat, unless such absence is excused by a majority vote of the board. 3 Sec. [XX.5]. Duties and responsibilities. The Brookline Youth Council shall have the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Represent the views of youth in the community. 2. Facilitate neighborhood meetings with youths to discuss problems, needs and suggested improvements for the community. 3. Interact with other boards and commissions to discuss issues, concerns and needed improvements. 4. Work on town-sanctioned community service projects under the direction of the Town Administrator. 5. Make recommendations to the Select Board on matters affecting youth in the community. Or act on anything relative thereto.
